History

Kleinwalsertal is the best exponent of the fascinating Austrian mountain landscape with amazing views and an abundance of nature. A total of 30 peaks surround the valley at an altitude of between 1,100 and 1,250 metres. Lying between Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Allgäu, the Kleinwalsertal offers certain peculiarities due to its geographic position. For instance, here you will hear a dialect that cannot deny its Swiss origins.

On the Hochifen, Kanzelwand and the Walmendinger Horn are the most beautiful hiking areas of the Kleinwalsertal. 17 km away from Oberstdorf, the German town where the 2005 Ski World Championships were held, the Kleinwalsertal valley constitutes a marvellous ski region.

The Kleinwalsertal-Oberstdorf ski pass allows you to use all the facilities in the region: 50 mountain railways and lifts up to 2,000 metres are waiting for you.

All the bus routes in the valley are free of charge with your Guest Card and take you everywhere easily and quickly.

With this card you will have free entry to the Walser Museum in Riezlern, where valuable objects related to the region’s history, its inhabitants and customs are exhibited. The Bergschau exhibition presents in an active and interesting way the evolution of the flora and fauna in this alpine corner.
